Abstract
This is a study on plasma renin acitivity (PRA) which was obtanined from the patients with acute glomerulonephritis or nephrotic syndrome and normotensive control group admitted in Chungnam National University Hospital from Oct. 1985 to Aug. 1986 to confirm any differences of PRA between groups and to establish their influencing factors. The results were as follows; 1) PRA of noimal children in preschool age (3.49 ±0.98 ng/ml/hr) was higher than that in school age (2.23±1.27 ng/ml/hr) significantly (P<0.05). 2) Although there were no significant differences of PRA between acute phases of nephritic group and control group, PRA of nephrotic group in acute phase (12.89 ±9.02 ng/ml/hr) was higher than that in convalescent phase (3.72 ±0.21 ng/ml/hr) (P<0.05) and that in control group (2.86 ± 1.25 ng/ml/hr) (P< 0.001) significantly. 3) PRA in acute phase of nephrotic group was higher than that of nephritic one (P<0.05) but there were no differences in convalescent phases. 4) PRA in hypertensive nephritic group was lower than that of normotensive one (P<0.01) and revealed a reverse correlation with pretreatment blood pressure (r=-0.761, P<0.01). 5) PRA in nephrotic gorup revealed a linear correlation with the weight gain during edematous phase (r=0.633, P<0.05) and a reverse correlation with the concentration of serum albumin (r=-0.911, P< 0.001) and sodium concentration (r=-0.638, P<0.05).
Key Words: Plasma renin activity, AGN and nephrotic syndrome
