Abstract |
29 cases of Wilms tumor treated at the Kosin Medical Center from 1975 to 1984, were
analyzed and the results are as follows: 1) The age distribution of Wilms tumor was between 4 months and 13 years. The mean age was 3 years and 9 months. The median age was 24 months.
2) There were 16 cases of left-sided tumor, 12 cases of right-sided tumor, 1 cases of bilateral tumor.
3) Tumor most frequently encountered symptoms were abdominal mass and/or distension (100%),
followed by abdominal pain, fever, hematuria, hypertenssion in order of frequency.
4) Chest X-ray showed diffuse nodular parenchymal densities in 2 cases(7.9%), pleural effusion in 3 cases(10.3%) and large single or several mass shadow in 2 cases(7.9%). The intravenous pyelogram showed non visualization
in 10 cases(55.6%), intrarenal mass shadow in 8 cases(44.4%).
5) The distribution of clinical stage according to NWTS staging system were 9, 8, 1, 10 and 1 cases of stage I, II, III, IV, V. 6) Distant metastasis were observed in 10 cases on initial diagnosis. Involved organ were liver(80%), lung(70%) bone marrow(30%) and brain(10%). 7) The 2 year survival rates of the 29 treated patients were 55.2%. Two year survival rates of stage I were 88.9%. Those of stage II, III, IV, V were 75.0%, 0%, 20%, 0%,
respectively.
