Abstract
We analyzed data on children with chronic renal failure collected from 36 pediatric training hospitals during the period from Jan. 1, 1980 to Dec. 31, 1984. The following results were obtained: 1) Total number of children with chronic renal failure during the study period was 135. The incidence was about 1 per 2,000 in-patients and 2.09 per million children under 15 years old per pear. 2) Sex ratio was 86 : 49 with male preponderance, and 46% of the patients were older than 10 years. 3) Glomerulonephritis was the most common(62%) underlying renal disease, then hereditary renal disease, vascular nephropathy etc. in the order of frequency. 4) 22% of the children with chronic renal failure were alive but only 10% of the children were alive through the transplantation or longterm dialysis. More attention should be paid for children with chronic renal failure although there are many difficulties in treatment in terms of socioeconomical environment in Korea.
