| Abstract |
|
The clinical studies were performed on 29 congenitally corrected transposition of£the great arteries (C-TGA) confirmed by cardiac catheterization and angiocardiography at the Department of Pediatrics, Seoul National University Hospital, from Oct. 1957 to Dec. 1984. The results are as follows;
1) There were 29 cases of C-TGA, representing 0.7% of a total of 4,096 CHD patients.
The male： female ratio was 3.1 : 1. 2) 51.7% of the C-TGA patients were detected under the age of 3 months and 72.4% were detected in one year of their age. 3) The most frequent complaint at diagnosis was tachypnea or dyspnea and the next was cyanosis. 4) Birth weights of the patients were within normal limits.
5) On physical examination, there were growth retardation in 3 cases (10.4%), cyanosis in 17 patients(58.6%), and loud second heart sound at the left sternal border in 11(37.9%). 6) VSD was the most frequently associated intra-cardiac anomaly(93.1%), which was followed by pulmonic stenosis (72.4%). 7) Cardiomegaly was noticed in 13 cases (44.8%) and increased pulmonary vascularity in 9 patients (31.0%). 8) ECG findings could be classified into three groups according to the absence or presence of pulmonic stenosis and the position of the heart and in each group the findings were very much similar. Three cases showed first degree AV block.
9) Nine patients were operated. Four patients died. The causes of death were complication of cardiac catheterization and angiography in one patient, perioperative complications in two patients and sudden death
6 month after operation in one patient.
