Abstract |
Transient myeloproliferative disorder has been reported in infants with Down syndrome.
Infants with Down syndrome and this transient myeloproliferative disorder often present
with signs and symptoms that are clinically and hematologically indistinguishable from
congenital acute myelogenous leukemia. In contrast to congenital AML, complete clinical and
hematological recovery occurs within weeks to months of diagnosis without any specific anti-
leukemic treatment.
A case of transient myeloproliferative disorder with Down syndrome in a 17 days old
male is experienced and is reported with literature review. He showed jaundice, hepatosplen-
omegaly and petechiae. Peripheral blood smear and bone marrow examination revealed a
picture of leukemia. But clinical and hematological improvement occurred after 3 months
without any specific anti-leukemic treatment.
