Abstract
The daily urinary excretion of 17-Ketosteroids were measured in twenty cases of epidemic encephalites which were observed in the Pediatric ward of the Seoul National University Hospital during the Summer of 1962. The following results were obtained: 1)Total 125 measurements were carried out. The values of 17-Ketosteroids in seventy determinations revealed above normal. In thirteen, the levels of 17-Ketosteroids were below normal. The rest of 42 determinations revealed normal values. 2)In the six patients who were in comatous state at either the early stage of the illness or during the middle of the illness, 14 determinations of 17-Ketost eroids were performmed. Of these, below normal value was revealed in 7 determinations, one revealed normal value and six above normal values. 3)In the patients whose consciousness was stuporous or somnolent, total of 73 derminations of the daily urinary 17-Ketosteroids were done. In five of these, the values were below normal, in 24 the values were normal and in the rest of 44,the values were above normal. 4)There was no correlation between the amount of the daily urinary 17-Ketosteroids adn the serum sodium and potassium concentrations. 5)There was no correlation between the amount of the daily urinary 17-Ketosteroids and the amounts of urinary sodium and potassium excretion although the amounts were below normal in many cases studied.
