Abstract |
The authors observed 303cases of neonatal jaundice admitted at pediatric department of N.M.C. during the period of 5 years from January 1970 to December 1974. Thirty-two cases who had exchange transfusion were analysed clinically and the following results were obtained. 1. Among 303 cases of neonatal jaundice, the exchange transfusion was performed on 32 cases (10.6%). 2.There was no remarkable difference of the birth weight between the baby treated with, exchange transfusion and the others. 3.The major etiologies were ABO incompatibility (72.0%), physiologic jaundice (18.7%), Rh incompatibility (6.3%) and septicemia (3.1%)4.The blood types of mother-baby were O-A (56.0%), O-B (22.2%) and A-A (12.5%). 5.In most of the cases, the onset of jaundice was within 12〜48 hours after birth. 6.In 40.6% of the cases, repeated exchange transfusion was performed. 7.The mean bilirubin level of the jaundice at the time of admission was 24.2 mg%. 8.The mean bilirubin levels before and after the exchange transfusion were 29. 0 mg% and 15.6mg% respectively and the reducing rate of the bilirubin by the exchange transfusion was 46.0%. 9. The mean Hgb levels before and after the exchange transfusion were 13. lgm% and 11.4gm% with the reducing rate by the exchange transfusion of 13%.
