Abstract
A statistical study on eosinophilia was performed on in-patients and out-patients of the pediatric department of National Medical Center, during the five years, from Sept. 1969 to Aug. 1974. A total of 4,131 cases was included and among these, 3, 008 cases were from in-patients and 1,123 cases were from out-patients. The following results were obtained. 1)The incidence of eosinophilia was 11.9% (493 cases out of 4,131) and, in 80% of the cases with eosinophilia, the percentage of eosinophiles was in the range of 6~10 % of the white blood cell count. The mean percentage of eosinophiles in the cases without eosinophilia was 1.1%. 2) The highest age incidence of eosinophilia was between the ages of 6 to 12 years, which accounted for about 14.1% of the total eosinophilia cases. 3) The etiologic classification of the diseases associated with eosinophilia showed variable pattern but the outstanding causes were parasitic infestation(25%) and allergic diseases(8. 0%). 4)The main causative parasitic infestations were as the followings. a)Trichiuris trichiuria 45. 2% b) Ascaris lumbricoides 21. 4% c) Tricihuris trichiuria and ascaris 21. 4%
