Clinical and Statistical Observation for Postmaturity, Premature and Fullterm Infants

Abstract |
We observed one thousand ten newborn babies containing 294 postterm babies who were delivered
in our hospital from May 1,1972 to June, 1973. The results were;
1) The distribution of postmaturity was 29.5% in 41 weeks, 17% in 42 weeks, and 7% over
43 weeks gestation period, and 9% in prematurity.
2) Maternal toxemis was revaled 15.4% in fullterm, 17% in post term and 25% in preterm babies.
3) Placental weight according to gestaional age was increased by 42 weeks gestation period, but
gradually decreased since 43 weeks gestation period.
4) Body weigth, length and head circumference at birth was increasing accoring to gestational age.
5) Hemoglobin value during first 24 hours was 17. 6 gm% in preterm, 19.1 gm% in fullterm,
and 18. 3 gm% in postterm babies.
6) In the type of delivery, Cessarean section and forcep delivery were more in postterm than in
preterm or fullterm babies.
7) In Apgar score, postterm and preterm babies revealed poor score in reflex irritability and
muscle tone especially.
