Abstract |
The efficacy of three oral hypoglycemic agents, all sulfonylurea derivatives
(Chlorpropamide, Tolbutamide and Tolazamide) were compared in the case of a 6-year-old girl suffering from diabetes insipidus. Chlorpromide was demonstrated to be the most effective, Tolbutamide slightly effective, and
Tolazamide lacked antidiuretic action.
Comparison of molecular structures of these agents revealed that replacement of Cl in para-position
with methyl radical did not greatly influence the antidiabetic efficacy, whereas replacing the propylradical
with other complex radicals markedly affects the efficacy.
