Abstract
Clinical and serological studies on 59 cases of infantile and childhood Japanese B. encephalitis in Korean children, from Aug. 1962 to Oct. 1968, were made. 1)30 cases were male and 29 cases were female. 2)Age incidence showed 3~5 years to be most commonly affected(25 cases, 42. 4%), and 2 cases were less than 1 year of age. 3)The onset of 43 cases (77. 9%) was from Aug. 20 to Sept. 20. 4) In 82. 5% of whole cases, the values of serum Na were within normal range. The other electrolytes were no remarkable finding. 5)The lower value than 100/mm3 of cell count in the spinal fluid was an unfavorable prognostic sign. 6)There were 15 deaths (mortality rate 25.4%) whose first H-I test titer were less than 1 : 10, and the mortality rate was higher in 3~5 years. 7)Hemagglutination-inhibition test was performed in 51 cases, of which 31 cases (68. 6%) was established erologically. 8)The H-I test titer was the highest at 21st day of illness in total 17 cases whose H-I test was performed more than 3 times in series. 9)The positivity of hemagglutination-inhibition test in total 119 sera was more than 90% from 10th day of disease.
