Abstract |
The 10〜 90 percentile ranges of skeletal ages in 200 boys and 218 girls of 15-year-old children in
the 3rd grade of randomly selected middle school in Kwangju were obtained according to the scoring
system described by Tanner et al, and the standard radiographic atlas of 15. 0- and 15. 5-year-old boys
and 15-year-old girls were provided.
Skeletal age of girls was earlier than that of boys. Approximate age of oigarche was 14. 5 years,
and menarche was 14. 0 years. The earlier age of oigarche and menarche showed advanced skeletal
age. Earlier skeletal maturity was found in the boys taller in height.
According to the study it seems that the skeletal maturity score of Korean children are slightly
higher in boys and considerably lower in girls than that of British children, although definite conclusion awaits further experiment.
Brief mention was also made on the individual variation of physical changes encountered in this age group.
