Abstract |
Surgically corrected congenital hiatal hernia associated with severe chronic anemia has been presented. A 3 year and 8 month old boy has been complained severe anemia and general malaise on admission. Roentgenological examination revealed thoracic stomach and then the hernia was repaired by transthoracic approach. It was found that the character of hernia was short esophagus with thoracic stomach type. On admission, hemoglobin was 3.0 gm% and occult blood in the stool was positive which were corrected by whole blood transfusion and herniorrhaphy. 50 days after surgery, follow-up physical examination was done and none of physical and functional abnormalities were found. Pathogenesis and complications of congenital hiatal hernia were discussed and briefly reviewed.
