Abstract |
Mycoplasmas have been recognized as pathogens of respiratory tract in children and adolescence,
but clinically apparent pneumonia develops in only 3 to 10% of infected persons.
Central nervous system complication, such as aseptic meningitis, meningoencephalitis. transverse
myelitis, hemiplegia, cerebellar ataxia and psychosis, associated with Mycoplasma pneumoniae
infection were developed in .0.1 % of all Mycoplasmal infection.
We experienced a case of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia and meningitis in 5 year old boy
which was resistant to various antibiotics during several hospital days. Central nervous system
symptom and sign were developed during sixth hospital day, with increased cold agglutinin in both
serum and cerebrospinal fluid and indirect hemagglutinin inhibition titer in rum.
He was clinically improved after oral medication of erythromycin.
The case was presented with brief review of Iiterature. |
