Abstract
Herpes simplex virus infection in the newborn is generally thought to be associated with a grave prognosis in terms of mortality and severe neurologic sequelae among survivors. Most neonatal herpes infection are due to type 2 herpes virus hominis, acquired either by ascending infection from the mother’s genital area to the intrauterine infant after premature rupture of membrame, or by spread to the infant during delivery through the birth canal of an infected mother. This is a report of type 2 herpes simplex virus infection which developed in twin neonates and confirmed by viral culture. They were expired and autopsies were done. A brief review of related literature was added.
Key Words: Neonatal herpes simplex virus infection.
