Abstract |
The authors evaluated serologic markers of Hepatitis B on 205 cases in families of HB marker positive 67 patients who were admitted to pediatric ward of St. Benedict Hospital from April, 1983 to April, 1984, to determine the intrafamilial spread of hepatitis B virus infection. The results were as follows; 1)Intrafamilial positive rate of HB marker was 52.7%. HB marker positive rate in mothers of patients(62. 9%) was significantly higher than that in fathers(39.7%)(p<0. 01). In brothers and sisters of patients, HB marker positive rate of brother was slightly higher
without significance. 2)HB marker positive rate in families of patients with HBeAg positive(55.4%) was significantly higher than that of patients with HBeAb positive(35.3%), and it was significantly correlated with presence of HBeAg in the sera of patients(p<0.05). 3)There was no significant relationship between HB marker positive rate in families and the abnormal elevation of SGPT of patients, but it showed slightly increasing trend.
