Abstract |
To evaluate the efficacy of the Transcutaneous Minolta Bilirubinometer in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, the value of serum bilirubin measured by alkali azo bilirubin method and American optical biliribinometry were compared with the reading of transcutaneous bilirubinometer in 86 fullterm newborns. The following results were obtained:
1)The Transcutaneous Minolta Bilirubinometer was assessed to have the objective value in determining the severity of hyperbilirubinemia in fullterm newborns, but could not to be substituted for the laboratory measurement by blood taking. 2)The most reliable site for Transcutaneous Minolta Bilirubinometer was midsternum and it is always necessary to measure the degree of hyperbilirubinemia by blood taking when the value of Transcutaneous Minolta Bilirubinometer exceeds 17. 3)Significant linear correlation was found between Transcutaneous Minolta Bilirubino-
meter and Alkali Azo Bilirubin method; y=6.37+0.95 x(r=0.92, p<.001).
