Abstract |
The statistical investigation for the possible relationship between ABO blood groups and birth weight was performed. Nine hundred and ninty live born infants without any abnormality who delivered at Kyung-pook university hospital from Dec. 1969 to Sep. 1970, were taken for this study. The results were as follows:
1)The frequency distribution of different blood groups among the 1938 individuals examined (1044 infants and 894 mothers) was that A is 604(33. 0%), AB is 219(11. 3%) and 0 is 537(27. 7 %)and ABO AB in order. There was no difference in the distribution of blood groups between mothers and newborn. 2) No statistical significance was observed in the birth weight of each blood groups among infants. However, the frequency distribution of low birth weight infants including prematurity revealed somewhat higher in AB group(5. 40%) than others (A 4. 51%, B-4. 53%, and 0-3. 09%), and the frequency distribution of prematurity was loewst in 0 group(l. 71%) than others(A-3. 93%,B-3. 88%,AB-3.60%). 3)No statistical significance was observed in the birth weights of infants born from same blood group of mothers, but in different combinations of blood group between mother and infant, B-A,
A-B and O-B combinatien tend to have higher birth weight and AB-B, B-0 and O-A combination lower than other combinations without significance.
