The prune belly syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by laxed, wrinkled abdominal wall, cryptorchidism and urinary tract anomalies. But it has wide spectrum of clinical severity, clinical presentation and other anomalies such as pulmonary and skeletal anomalies. We suggested that we should examine the abdominal wall carefully in order to detect mild form (class III) of prune belly syndrome when we... |
To study the clinical prognosis of the neonatal seizure, we carried out a retrospective review on medical records of 40 neonates who were admitted to the Dept. of Pediatrics, Kyung Hee University Hospital between January 1979 and December 1986. The results from the study are summarized as follows 1) Male to female ratio were 1.8:1. In 50.0%(20/40) of newborn infants, neonatal seizure was detected under... |
Exchange transfusion is being used widely to correct anemia and control existing hyperbilirubinemia for the prevention of kernicterus in newborn. But the blood used for exchange transfusion is stored blood containing anticoagulants and other substances. So many metabolic changes can be developed after exchange transfusion. This study was undertaken to evaluate the acid-base and electrolyte change after exchange transfusion using the ACD-B blood. In... |
Lung perfusion scan was performed on 5 young children suspected as foreign body aspiration who had been admitted on the Department of Pediatrics, Kyung Hee University Hospital from May 1986 to January 1988. The results were as follows: 1) All children had been showed perfusion defect as compatible as acute obstructive lung disease by lung perfusion scan and foreign bodies in bronchial tree were proved on... |
Rickettsial infection has not been identified in Korea since about 20-30 years before in Korea. However, there has been an increasing incidence of Tsutsugamushi disease in recent years. Tsutsugamushi disease is a variety of rickettsial infection to human causing abrupt onset of fever, headadie, vomiting, myalgia, and abdominal pain. In severe case, causing D.I.C., pulmonary edema, hypoalbuminemia and generalized edema. We reported a case of... |
Only IgG anti-A, or Anti-B cross the placenta and are responsible for the occurrence of ABO hemolytic disease of newbom(HDN). We have conducted the role of IgG anti-A or anti-B in mothers to occurrence and severity of the disease with were related to the level of antibodies in pathogenesis of ABO-HDN. This report presents the relation between the degree of bilirubin, hemoglobin concentration in ABO-HDN... |
More recently, several studies of newborns involving ABR testing have demonstrated abnormalities following an exposure to moderate or severe hyperbilirubinemia. Jaundice in the early neonatal period is associated with significant transient aberrations of ABR, which suggested transient brain- stem encephalopathy. So, many authors mentioned that ABR may be a useful tool for the monitoring of early biliubin toxicity in infants who were at risk... |
Auditory Brainstem Response(ABR) has been found to be useful for evaluating objective assessment of hearing thresholds, maturation of the brainstem and neurological disorders in the brainstem. Therefore it is essential to define normal ranges and accurate changes in the wave form of the ABR in children. This study was undertaken with the analysis of 243 ABR in children with normal otological, developmental, neurological... |
We observed 63 cases ranging in age from 3 years to 15 years seen by gastrofibroscopy in Dept, of Int. Med. and Dept, of Ped. of Kyung hee Univ. Hospital from January 1980 to December 1985 and following results were obtained 1) The male to female ratio was about 1:1.17. The frequency of the age distribution was 1.6% below 5 years, 25.4% in 6-10 years... |
We have conducted a retrospective study on chromosomal aberrations in children, aged under 15 years old, who had been refered to cytogenetic laboratory at Kyung Hee University Hospital from 1977 to 1986 Base upon the Karyotypes of lymphocytes and chart records, the following results were obtained; 1) Chromosomal aberrations of various types were found in 101 cases in children. 2) Age distribution revealed 65.3% were under the... |
The isoimmune hemolytic diseases of the newborn due to minor blood group are characterized by the abnormal titer of minor group antibody in mother’s serum and neonatal progressive jaundice caused by isoimmune hemolytic anemia. This report present the clinico-hematologic features of six cases of hemolytic diseases of newborn due to minor blood group isoimmunization who were admitted to the Kyung Hee university Hospital and presented... |
We experienced two cases of meconium peritonitis with sigmoidal perforation in three-day-old male neonate and ileal perforation in one-day-old male neonate, respectively which were treated by primary closure. Literatures are reviewed briefly. |
A 40 hours old female neonate was admitted to the Pediatric Ward of Kyung Hee Unive- rsity Hospital due to severe jaundice. Laboratory work up showed typical pictures of immune hemolytic anemia. But there was no incompatibility of ABO and Rh(D) systems between the baby and mother. Minor blood groups were examined by Reagent Red Cells Selectogen and Antigram. High titer (1 : 125) of... |
The authors presented a 17 months old female with malignant osteopetrosis, who was admitted to the Pediatric Department of Kyung Hee University Hospital on May, 1981 because of epistaxis and growth retardation. Diagnosis was made by typical clinical manifestations, hematologic and radiologic findings, such as frontal bossing, opened anterior fontanel, exophalmoses, strabismus, optic atropy, marked hepatosplenomegaly, severe anemia, thrombocytopenia, reticulocytosis... |
Recently, we experienced two cases of tuberous sclerosis, in 4-year-4-month-old female and 17-month-old male patient. The diagnoses were established by typical clinical manifestations and brain CAT. Especially, in latter case, calcific density was successfully detected by brain CAT, while plain radiographs of the skull revealed still no evidence of calcification. A brief review of related literatures was made. |
