Abstract
Fifty-five children with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) were admitted to the Department of pediatrics, Chonnam University Hospital during 6 years and 5 months from January 1980 to May 1986. We Compared clinical pictures and effects of steroids and platelet concentrates on acute and chronic ITP. No significant sexual predominance was found in total patients with ITP, but also between acute and chronic types, On the standard point of 6 year old, the age of onset in actue ITP was younger than that in the chronic(p<0.05). Many patients developed from April to July (26 cases; 47.3%). The preceding conditions were noted in 31.3% of acute ITP, but not in the chronic. The platelet counts and bone marrow examinations in childhood ITP did not show any significant differences between the actue and chronic. In addition, steroid therapy and transfusion of platelet concentrates had no effects on the treatment of childhood ITP. In this study, it seemed to be difficult to differentiate acute from chronic ITP early by clinico-epidemiological study.
Key Words: ITP, Acute and chronic, Differential diagnosis.
