Abstract |
Clinical study was made of 60 cases who were received blood exchange transfusion at Taegu Fatima Hospital from January, 1978 to December, 1980 with the following results.
1) Among 1,387 cases of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, the exchange transfusion was performed on 60 ases(4.3%).
2) The most predominant delivery type was normal vertex delivery at local clinics.
3) The most common cause of performed exchange transfusion was unknown etiology(25%),and the next was ABO incompatibility (23.3%). 4) The serum bilirubin was decreased to 46% of the pre-exchange level after exchange transfusion. 5) After exchange transfusion, serum K was decreased in 32.2% (>lmEq/L) and serum Ca
was increased in 42.4%(>2mg%). 6) There was no serious problem except anemia (12 cases), wound infection
(8 cases) and abdominal distention (6 cases). The mortality rate was 5.0%.
