Young June Choe, Ju-Young Shin
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2019;62(4):113-118.   Published online March 4, 2019
Inappropriate antibiotic use is the most important factor causing increased bacterial resistance to antibiotics, thus affecting patient outcomes. Multidrug-resistant bacteria have become a serious public health threat, causing significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. In Korea, the burden of antibioticresistant bacteria has become an important public health issue. There is increasing evidence of overuse and misuse of antibiotics in Korea, as...

Antibiotic susceptibility and imaging findings of the causative microorganisms responsible for acute urinary tract infection in children: a five-year single center study
Ji Eun Yoon, Wun Kon Kim, Jin Seok Lee, Kyeong-Seob Shin, Tae-Sun Ha
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2011;54(2):79-85.   Published online February 28, 2011
Purpose

We studied the differences in the antibiotic susceptibilities of the microorganisms that causeing urinary tract infections (UTI) in children to obtain useful information on appropriate drug selection for childhood UTI.

Methods

We retrospectively analyzed the antibiotic susceptibilities of 429 microorganisms isolated from 900 patients diagnosed with UTI in the Department of Pediatrics, Chungbuk National University Hospital, from 2003 to 2008.

Results

The most common...

Causative Organisms of Urinary Tract Infection in Children, and their Antibiotic Susceptibility
Yoon Duk Kang, Nam Su Kim, Sung Hee Oh
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2004;47(10):1065-1071.   Published online October 15, 2004
Purpose : In caring patients with urinary tract infection(UTI), it is prominent to know causative agents and their antimicrobial susceptibilities, of which domestic data appear somewhat different from those reported in the literature. The study was done to learn the distribution of pathogens causing UTI and their antimicrobial susceptibilities in Korean children. Methods : One hundred forty two inpatients diagnosed...
Serogroup and Antimicrobial Resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae Isolated from Oropharynx in Children Attending Day Care Center
Kyung Hyo Kim, Jong Eun Lee, Il Tae Whang, Kyung Ha Ryu, Young Mi Hong, Gyoung Hee Kim, Keun Lee, Eun-Suk Kang, Ki-Sook Hong
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2002;45(3):346-353.   Published online March 15, 2002
Purpose : Penicillin- and multidrug-resistant S. pneumoniae poses a serious threat to clinicians because the rate of resistance of S. pneumoniae to penicillin in Korea has surged up to the world's highest level. This study was performed to assess the carriage rate, serogroups and antimicrobial susceptibility of S. pneumoniae isolated from oropharynx in children. Methods : From March to July 1998,...
Carriage and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Haemophilus influenzae Isolated from Oropharynges of Children
Kyung Hyo Kim, Kyoung Ah Lim, Il Tae Whang, Young Mi Hong, Eun Sook Kang, Ki Sook Hong
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2001;44(5):509-516.   Published online May 15, 2001
Purpose : Haemophilus influenzae, one of the normal flora of the upper respiratory tract, can cause such infections as otitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, and meningitis in children. The oropharyngeal flora has therefore mainly been analyzed as a reservoir for pathogens. This study was performed to reveal the colonization rate of H. influenzae in the upper respiratory tract, their biotypes, their antimicrobial...
The Relation between Antibiotic Use and Changes of Antimicrobial Resistance of Gram Negative Bacilli Isolated in Chonbuk National University Hospital(1993-1997)
Min Ki Chang, Jung Min Chu, Hae Soo Lee, Jung Soo Kim
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2000;43(5):625-631.   Published online May 15, 2000
Purpose : Antimicrobial resistance has become a major medical and public health problem. This study was performed to evaluate the changes in antimicrobial susceptibility patterns. Methods : The susceptibility of 8,224 recent clinical isolates during a 5-year period from 1993 to 1997 were tested against 8 antimicrobial agents. Antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed by disc diffusion method. Results : E. coli...
A Study of Antimicrobial Sensitivity to Isolated Bacteria in Ulsan
Sun Ju Kim, Yong Woon Baek, Jin Yeong Jeong, Sung Ryul Kim
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1995;38(10):1329-1339.   Published online October 15, 1995
Purpose : The Patterns of predominant microorganisms and their antibiotic sensitivity have been changed by various factors. Identification and evaluation of major pathogenic organisms and selection of optimal antibiotics were essential in the management of infectious diseases. This susceptibility patterns of antibiotics would be useful to improve empirical antimicrobial therapy. Methods : We studied the antimicrobial sensitibity to isolated bacteria from...
Changes of Antimicrobial Susceptibilities of Bacteria Isolated from Clinical Specimens During Recent Four Years.
Byung Rai Cho, Young Jin Hong, Don Hee Ahn, Keun Chan Sohn
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1989;32(2):165-179.   Published online February 28, 1989
From Jan,M 1983 to Dec., 1986, we studied total 2386 microorganisms which were isolated from various clinical specimens of admitted patients and out-patients in the department of pediatrics, NMC, and their antimicrobial susceptibilities were compared. The results were as follows; 1) The most frequently isolated stains from various specimens were S. aureus from throat, E. coli from urine, Shigella from stool, S. aureus from blood,...
Shigelle, and Salmonella.
NamSu Kim, Jae Ho Lee, Chang Yee Hong
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1982;25(11):1106-1119.   Published online November 30, 1982
1. A total of 3,178 strains of Staphylococcus aureus, 278 strains of Shegella and 506 strains of Salmonella were isolated and tested for sensitivity against antimicrobial agents at Seoul National University Hospital from January 1971 to December 1980. Clinical study was made on children under 15 years old. 2. Sensitive strains to antimicrobial agents were more frequently isolated in children than adult. But the pa竹ern of sensitivity...

B K Kim, S H Shin, Y D Kwon
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1982;25(7):717-722.   Published online July 31, 1982
This paper presents the clinical, bacteriological assement and therapeutic effect of antimicrobial agents on 106 cases of shigellosis in children who had been treated at pediatric department of Keimyung University Medical College and Hospital during the period from January 1978 through June 1980. Following results were obtained 1) 68 cases(86.8%) were between 6 months to 5 years of age. 2)...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 1981;24(5):459-465.   Published online May 15, 1981
A) Bacteriological study and sensitivity test against antimicrobial agents were made on 126 cases of infantile and childhood shigellosis treated at pediatric epartment of St. Vincent hospital from April, 78 to September, 80. The results are follows: 1. Sh. flexneri was most frequently isolated(86.5%) and the next was Sh. sonnei(13.5%). 2. The percentage of resistant strains against antimicrobial agents. Ampicillin:...
