Myelodysplastic syndrome is a disorder of the marrow stem cell characterized initially by ineffective erythropoiesis, an abnormal bone marrow, and peripheral blood cytopjenia. Recently MDS was classified into 5 subtypes by the F rench-American-British (FAB) Cooperative Group: (1) Refractory anemia(R.A.), (2) RA with ring sideroblast, (3) RA with excess of blast(RAEB), (4) Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) and (5) RAEB in transformation.
