We observed 34 cases of newborn, who were diagnosed as having polycythemia, out of 3,312 newborns who were admitted to our nursery between January 1, 1989 and December 31, 1987. Metatropic dwarfism is rare skeletal dysplasia characterized by short extremities, bulbous enlarge- ment of the joints, joint limitation and progressive and ultimately severe kyphoscoliosis. We have experienced one case of metatropic dwarfism. The diagnosis was established by clinical, radiological and pathologic findings. The patient was died six days after delivery. A brief review of literature was made.
