Comparison of urinary specific gravity by refractometer and osmolality in 238 neonates demonstrated as followings; 1) The regression line is represented by the equation: Y = 107+14.2 (X-1000) while Y = osmolality in mosm/kg X = Specific gravity by refractometer r=0.8545 2) Osmolality is the only accurate measure of urine concentration in newborn infants.
