Clin Exp Pediatr. 2009;52(11):1234-1240.   Published online November 15, 2009
Purpose : Enteroviruses (EVs) are commonly known to cause infection, especially in infants and children. This report presents an overview of enterovirus epidemiology in central Korea. Methods : From the spring of 2005 to the autumn of 2006, we collected the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and stool samples from the pediatric patients with a febrile illness or suspected meningitis who were...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 2004;47(11):1210-1215.   Published online November 15, 2004
Purpose : This study was performed to evaluate the possible neuroprotective effect of exogenous growth hormone on hypoxic-ischemic brain injury in neonatal rats. Methods : After ligation of the right common carotid artery, seven-day old Sprague-Dawley rats(n= 75) were exposed to 8% oxygen for two hours. In a growth hormone(GH)-treated group(n=25), each animal was subcutanously injected by GH(50 mg/kg, Grotrpin ,...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 2004;47(10):1114-1118.   Published online October 15, 2004
Congenital pulmonary vein stenosis(CPVS) with anatomically normal connection, a rare anomaly, usually leads to progressive pulmonary hypertension, cardiac failure in infancy, and death if untreated. Most are combined with other anomalies, particularly left to right shunt lesions. Very often, the detection of CPVS is overlooked on the initial cardiac echocardiogram, because it may be mild in its severity initially, but...

Jae Ju Cho, Soon Bum Lee, Woo Sung Park, Young Pyo Chang
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2004;47(5):505-509.   Published online May 15, 2004
Purpose : We observed changes in the outcome of very low birth weight infants(VLBWI) admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit(NICU) of Dankook University Hospital(DKUH) in the last six years. Methods : The distribution of birth weight and gestational age, survival rate, neonatal complications, and causes of death for 228 VLBWI who had been admitted to DKUH from 1st January...
Effect of Hypoxia-Ischemia on Striatal Monoamine Metabolism in Neonatal Rat Brains
Youn Hee Jee, Hyung Gun Kim, Woo Sung Park, Young Pyo Chang
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2003;46(8):789-794.   Published online August 15, 2003
Purpose : We intended to evaluate the effect of hypoxia-ischemia on extracellular striatal monoamine metabolism in neonatal rat brains by in vivo microdialysis. Methods : The right common carotid arteries of five or six-day old rats were surgically ligated, and the probes for microdialysis were inserted into the right striatum with stereotaxic instrument. After stabilization for two hours, artificial cerebrospinal fluid...

Atypical Kawasaki Disease Presented with Toxic Shock Syndrome
Kyoung Yeon Lee, Jun Eun Park, Woo Sung Park
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2002;45(8):1048-1051.   Published online August 15, 2002
Toxic shock syndrome(TSS) is clinically similar to Kawasaki disease(KD) in that both of them are characterized by fever, desquamating rash and mucous membrane erythema. In contrast the main feature of TSS is hypotension, whereas the complication of KD is coronary vasculitis. We report an 8-year-old boy who fulfilled the crireria for TSS and KD. Initially he showed clinical features of...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 1988;31(3):315-321.   Published online March 31, 1988
We compared the interventricular pressure gradient with Doppler echocardiography and that measured during cardiac catheterization in 48 children who were admitted for diagnostic cardiac catheterization and angiography to the ward of Pediatrics, Seoul National University Children’s Hospital during the period of 7 months from June to December 1986. Among 48 cases of simple ventricular septal defect, 21 cases were supracristal (type I), and 27...

Neurilemoma is the most frequent tumor of the peripheral nerves and cellular neurilemoma is a variant with increased cellularity and marked nuclear variation. This report concerns a rare case of congenital cellular neurilemoma developed in the right forearm in a male newborn and he was managed with surgical excision. The relevant literature was reviewed.
