Role of Mast Cells in Allergic Inflammation and Innate Immunity
Kangmo Ahn
Korean J Pediatr. 2004;47(11):1137-1141.   Published online November 15, 2004
Mast cells play a key role in elicitation of the early-phase and late-phase IgE-mediated allergic inflammatory reactions. Mast cells are derived from pluripotent stem cells from the bone marrow. These cells migrate through circulation into connective tissues and mucosal surfaces where they mature. On the cell surfaces, mast cells have high affinity IgE receptor(FcεRI), which react with specific IgE to...

Neurological Examination after the Newborn Period until 3 Years of Age
Soonhak Kwon
Korean J Pediatr. 2004;47(11):1142-1148.   Published online November 15, 2004
The children should not be regarded as miniature adults since they are in the dynamic process of growth and development. Among many pediatric problems, the developmental delay may be central to them. For this reason, primary care physicians, especially pediatricians should be able to manage children with probable developmental delays because early detection and treatment of developmental delay or neurological...

When appropriate treatment is delayed, permanant sequelae are inevitable. We report a retrospective study of 22 neonates who were diagnosed with septic arthritis. Methods : We reviewed 22 patients, who were diagnosed...

In our study, high frequency oscillatory ventilation(HFV) with iNO combined therapy was tried in intractable respiratory failure neonates who showed no response to conventional...

The aim of this study was to assess the opsonization activity of pneumococal capsular antibody to seven serotypes in 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine before and after immunization in Korean children. Methods : Nine children from 24 to 49 months of age were immunized with 23-valent...

A spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality(SCIWORA) was defined by Pang and Wilberger in 1982 as the "objective signs of myelopathy as a result of trauma" in which no evidence of fracture, subluxation, or instability on plain radiographs, or computed tomography is demonstrable. Inherent elasticity of the vertebral column in infants and young children, among other age-related anatomical peculiarities, render...
