In this case, abdominal pain, anorexia and abdominal distension may follow eventfully. We reviewed the clinical and laboratory data to investigate the causative factors of hyperbilirubinemia in patients with KD. Methods : Two-hundred eighty two children diagnosed and hospitalized with KD were identified by searching patients' charts....

Purpose : Low dose aspirin is used due to its antiplatelet effect for the subacute phase of Kawasaki disease(KD). It is usually used for 6-8 weeks, then various hematologic laboratory tests and follow up echocardiography for evaluating coronary abnormalities are performed. Our review investigated the usefulness of various follow up laboratory tests performed at 6 weeks after the onset of...
The study on cytotoxicity of cytokines produced by the activated human NKT cells on neuroblastoma
Jin Young Cho, Young Wook Yoon, Hyang Suk Yoon, Jong Duk Kim, Du Young Choi
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2006;49(4):439-445.   Published online April 15, 2006
Purpose : α-Galactosylceramide (α-GalCer)-stimulated human Vα24 natural killer T (NKT) cells exert antitumor activity against some leukemia in a CD1d dependent and TCR-mediated manner, but could not kill CD1d - negative neuroblastoma (NB) cells. There are few reports about the direct antitumor effect of highly secreted cytokines by these cells on activation. In this study, using a cell-free supernatant (SPN)...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 2005;48(8):907-910.   Published online August 15, 2005
Intussusception and Meckel's diverticulum are very rare disorders in intrauterine or neonatal periods, which are causes of intestinal obstruction. We experienced a case of intussusception due to Meckel's diverticulum which caused intestinal obstruction in the neonate who had bilious vomiting a few hours after birth. We report this case with a brief review of the literature.

Echocardiographic Evaluation of the Natural Processes in Uncomplicated Ventricular Septal Defect
Hyang Suk Yoon, Du Young Choi
Accepted January 1, 1970
We studied, with echocardiography as a main tool, the natural processes of 211 patients with uncomplicated ventricular septal defect(VSD)(incidence, 5.33 per 1,000 live births); 146(69.2%) had a perimembranous VSD and 32 (15.2%) had a subarterial, 25(11.8%) had a muscular type of VSD. Cumulative rate of spontaneous closure was 26.1%. In the closure processes, about three-fourth of perimembranous VSd showed a...

The Mitral Regurgitation in Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)
Hyang Suk Yoon, Soon Ho Choi
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1994;37(3):317-321.   Published online March 15, 1994
Mitral regurgitation (MR) was analyzed by Doppler echocardiography, preoperatively and postoperatively, in 59 patients with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). The ratio of left atrial dimension and aortic root dimension (LAD/LOD) and the maximal velocity of the mitral valve (MV max) were compared in pre, postop group. The degree of the regurgitation was given to the MR group. In preop MR...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 1993;36(9):1271-1278.   Published online September 15, 1993
To evaluate the risk and factors associated with seizure recurrence on children with epilepsy while receiving the adequate anticonvulsant treament, we studied 58 patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy who were followed prospectively for a median of 26 months (range 7 to 54). The results were as follows: 1) Forty-four of the 58 patients (75.9%)had recurrence...

To evaluate the relationship between spontaneous diuresis and improvement of pulmonary function in respiratory distress syndrome, 15 premature neonates requiring mechanical ventilation for RDS, who admitted in NICU of Wonkwang University Hospital from January 1990 to June 1992, were studied. The results were as follows(results are mean¡¾SEM) 1) Mean birth weight of study infants was 1.82¡¾0.08Kg, and mean gestational age was 32.80¡¾0.54...
The Left Parasternal Movement in Children with Heart Diseases
Dae Ho Choi, Byung Hyun Kim, Hyang Suk Yoon, Kwang Soo Oh, Yeon Gyun Oh, Jong Duck Kim
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1992;35(7):942-948.   Published online July 15, 1992
When we are examining a cardiac patient, we want to make a physical diagnosis including involved ventricles, type of overload(volume or pressure), its degree, and the status or degree of pulmonary hypertension. Among various physical examinations of the cardiac patients, a left parasternal movement can give us a status of various degree of the volume and pressure overload of the ventricles....

Jung Suk Lee, Mi Jung Ko, Yeon Gyun Oh, Hyang Suk Yoon
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1989;32(7):951-957.   Published online July 31, 1989
This study determines the accuracy of Doppler echocardiography for predicting the presence of pulmonary artery hypertension from Doppler pulmonary artery velocity traces. The patient group included 26 patients with congenital cardiac disease who had undergone catheterization. Doppler measurements of acceleration time(AT), right ventricular ejection time (RVET), and AT/ RVET were compared with pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) and mean pulmonary artery pressure (m-PAP). We devided the patients in...

Of the 18 strains of shigellae, in-vitro sensitivity test was performed against twelve antimicrobial agents. The percentage of resistant strains was 77.8% in Ampicillin and 100% in TMP/SMX. Inhibition zone diameter by Rifampin disc was 8~10mm in all cases and clinical improvement with...
