Purpose

Apical muscular ventricular septal defects (MVSDs), especially in small infants, can be difficult to manage using surgical and percutaneous closure. An intraoperative perventricular procedure is a good option for closing apical MVSDs in small children with or without associated cardiac anomalies. We evaluated the results of hybrid perventricular closure of apical MVSDs performed using an Amplatzer duct occluder (ADO).

Methods

We retrospectively...

The utility of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in obese children
Myung Jin Kim, Jin Young Song
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2008;51(6):604-609.   Published online June 15, 2008
Purpose : Obesity in children and adolescence is highly correlated with adult obesity, which can provoke hypertension. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the blood pressure of obese children regularly. In this study, the results of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in obese children and adolescents were evaluated. Methods : ABPM was conducted for selected patients who visited Handong University...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 2001;44(2):154-160.   Published online February 15, 2001
Purpose : Patients with pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defects(PAVSD) have been a formidable surgical challenge. The source of pulmonary blood flow and vascular architecture are important in managing the surgical process. This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of echocardiography in this process. Methods : This study was prospectively designed to define the role of echocardiography in PAVSD. Non-invasive evaluations...

Purpose : Infective endocarditis(IE) is a serious complication in children with structural heart disease. We reviewed 35 cases of IE to identify the recent changes in the pattern of preexisting heart diseases, the spectrum of causative organisms and prognosis. Methods : The clinical records of children diagnosed as IE at the Seoul National University Children`s Hospital from January 1987 through December...
Long-term Clinical Study of Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return
Jin Young Song, Yong Soo Yoon
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2000;43(2):229-235.   Published online February 15, 2000
Purpose : Total anomalous pulmonary venous return is a rare congenital heart disease, which is fatal if untreated, especially, if the obstruction in pulmonary venous return is obstructed. With the technical development of echocardiogram, we are now able to do an early diagnosis if TAPVR and perform surgery. Accordingly, this report was aimed to evaluate patients with TAPVR as well...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 1995;38(7):914-921.   Published online July 15, 1995
Purpose : The DCRV is a cardiac anomaly in which the right ventricle is divided into two dif-ferent pressure chambers by aberrant hypertrophied muscle bundles arising from the lower infundibular septal region. DCRV may be associated with other congenital cardiac anomalies and surgical treatment is required because we know that this obstruction is progressive. In this report, we reviewed clinically...

Five years ago, we made the cut-off value of TSH by dry filter paper method as 15μU/ml to screening congenital hypothyrodism. Since then, 1,210 term neonates, who had no perinatal problems, screening test with this cut-off point. Neonates had been recalled for measurement of serum T4/TSH to rule out congenital hypothyroidism if their TSH value by screening tests reveal more...
