Young Bae Sohn, Su Jin Kim, Sung Won Park, Se-Hwa Kim, Sung-Yoon Cho, Soo Hyun Lee, Keon Hee Yoo, Ki Woong Sung, Jae Hoon Chung, Hong Hoe Koo, Dong-Kyu Jin
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2011;54(6):253-259.   Published online June 30, 2011
Purpose

Long-term survivors of childhood cancer appear to have an increased risk for the metabolic syndrome, subsequent type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in adulthood compared to healthy children. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency of the metabolic syndrome and associated factors in childhood cancer survivors at a single center in Korea.

Methods

We performed a retrospective review of...

Body composition by bioelectrical impedance analysis in children below 7 years old
Jiyoung Jung, Han Wool Kim, Tae Hyun Kim, Young Mi Hong
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2010;53(3):341-348.   Published online March 15, 2010
Purpose : Body composition is important to define and manage obesity and undernutrition. Obesity is a significant health problem with medical and psychological consequences for children and adolescents. Body composition analysis (BIA) is a simple, rapid, noninvasive, and reproducible technique. However, comparative analysis of body composition has not been done in young children below 7 years old. The aim of...
Effects of a 12-week, school-based obesity management program on obese primary school children
Han Gyu Kim, Goh-woon Lim, Hae Soon Kim, Young Mi Hong,
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2010;53(3):335-340.   Published online March 15, 2010

Purpose:This study was designed to determine the effects of a school-based obesity-management program on obese primary school children. Methods:A total of 995 children (6–12 years old) in a primary school were screened in March 2008, and of those, 101 obese students (44 boys and 57 girls, body mass index (BMI) ≥95 percentile) were enrolled for a study group. The school-...
The novel expression method of pediatric body composition : fat mass index and fat-free mass index

Clin Exp Pediatr. 2007;50(7):629-635.   Published online July 15, 2007
Purpose : This study was conducted to assess the usefulness of fat-free mass index (FFMI) and fat mass index (FMI) as novel expression methods of body composition in children. Methods : A total of 466 Second grade students-248 boys and 218 girls- from all elementary schools the Gwacheon City underwent anthropometric measures including bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and biochemical tests. The...
Validity of Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis(BIA) in Measurement of Human Body Composition
Hyung Suck Kim, Su Yung Kim
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2005;48(7):696-700.   Published online July 15, 2005
Propose : Body composition by bioelectrical impedance analysis(BIA) is a very useful method of analysing body composition. BIA is non-invasive, inexpensive, nonhazaedous and reproducible technique. The aim of this study was to determine the level of agreement between body composition measurement by BIA and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA). Methods : Data was examined in 100 children(male 58; female 42), who visited Pusan...
Pulmonary Function Test and Body Composition Analysis in Obese Children
Jee Seon Shin, Ji Hye Park, Ji Young Kim, Su Jung Kim, Young Mi Hong
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2005;48(6):588-593.   Published online June 15, 2005
Purpose : Obesity is associated with disturbances of ventilatory functions in adults. But few studies have evaluated the pulmonary complications of obesity in the pediatric population. The purpose of this study is to clarify the effects of obesity on pulmonary function and body composition in obese children. Methods : Forty seven obese children whose ages ranged from nine to twelve...
Body Composition by Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis in Obese Children
Jong Eun Lee, Ki Won Par, Su Jin Cho, Il Tae Whang, Young Mi Hong
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2001;44(9):992-1001.   Published online September 15, 2001
Purpose : Body composition by bioelectrical impedance analysis(BIA) is a very useful method of analysing body composition in many diseases. BIA is a simple, rapid, non-invasive and reproducible technique. There was no comparative analysis between obese and healthy children. A comparative analysis between obese and healthy children is needed to assess the effect of excercise and other interventions in the management of childhood obesity....
Body Composition of Children and Adolescents with Insulin-dependetn Diabetes Mellitus
Hye Young Kang, Mi Jung Park, Duk Hi Kim, You Kyung Park, Jong Ho Lee, Ho Seong Kim
Clin Exp Pediatr. 1994;37(12):1709-1716.   Published online December 15, 1994
Bodycomposition measurement is useful in the diagnosis of pathoogy, assessment of disease process and response to treatment in many endoclonologic and metabolic diseases. The Techniques used currently are mostly indirect, often expensive, difficult and time-consuming. A new method for estimation of body composition, infrared interactance, is rapid, safe, noninvasive, and may be useful in research ad clinical studies. Body composition was...
