To investigate the effect of dietary fats on the humoral and cellular immune response, different compositions in the quality and quantity of dietary fats were fed to male rats. The results are as follows; 1) The mean body weights of the rats which were fed the various dietary fats were not significant during the experimental period. The weights of the organs measured were the spleen,... |
Clinical analysis of 48 neonates who treated with Mechanical ventilation in NICU at Won-Kwang University Hospital from February 1987 to July 1990 was performed. The results were as follows; 1) According to diagnostic categories, hyaline membrane disease was the most common in 26 cases (54.2%), and then postasphyxia syndrome 10cases (20.8%), apnea of prematurity 3cases (6.2%), sepsis 3 cases (6.2%),in their order. 2) 29 cases (60.4%) were bom... |
A clinical study was performed on 197 cases of measles that were admitted to the department pediatrics of Hanyang University Hospital during the period of 5 years from Aug. 1985 to Jul. 1990. The patients with measles were classified as preventable or nonpreventable. We obtained the following results: 1) The incidence of measles was greater during the last study year than the previous years. 2) The age... |
In order to assess the rate of congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in newborns, CMV IgG antibody was studies at about 37.5 weeks gestation in 309 mothers and a positive rate of 96.4% was obtained. Virus culture for CMV from urine of 514 neonates less than 1 week after birth resulted in CMV growth in 6 neonates showing a 1.2% congenital infection rate. In... |
This clinical study presents an anlaysis of 102 patients who underwent definitive surgery for Hirschsprung’s disease from January 1979 to April 1990 at Department of Pediatrics, Yonsei Univer- sity College of Medicine. The results were summarized briefly as follows: 1) The sex ratio was 2.6:1, of male preponderence. 2) The first symptom appeared within 1 month after birth in majority of cases, in 82 cases (80.4%) and diagnosis... |
Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a common disease that occurred in 20 〜 40 percent of premature infants. The incidence of PDA is inversely related to the gestational age and birth weight. Hemodynamically significant PDA increases the morbidity and mortality of premature infants. So, the management of PDA is one of the major problems in neonatal intensive care unit. Based on experimental animal studies,... |
In this study, we evaluated clinical symptoms, neurologic findings, CSF examinations and prognosis of patients who were diagnosed to have tuberculous meningitis at Pusan National University Hospital and Gospel Hospital from march, 1983 to december, 1989. 1) Mean age was 3 years and 8 months and the percentage of patients under 6 years old was 71.9%. The male to female ration was 2.2:1. 2) Fever and vomiting... |
Fifty-six cases of aseptic meningitis were clinically observed from Jan., 1990 to Aug., 1990. Etiologic classification showed that 53cases (94.6%) were of unknown etiology because virus was not identified and 3 cases (5.4%) were mumps meningitis. The most frequent age group was early childhood (55.4%) and more frequent in male. The symptoms were fever, vomiting and headache in order of frequency. The finding of spinal... |
The introduction of computerized tomography (CT), a diagnostic method, has revolutionized the evaluation of neurologic disorders in children. And it provides a noninvasive, safe, and rapid diagnosis of intracranial pathology. CT scanning was performed on 126 children with neurologic symptoms who had admitted to department of pediatrics, Wonkwang University Hospital, from January 1986 to June 1990. Our study was designed to evaluate the usefulness of... |
Authors experienced a case of babesiosis in an eight year old boy just returned from Advijan, Ivory coast, Africa, where he had been for three years. Parasites were identified from blood smears. He was treated with clindamycin and quinine for ten days with good recovery. Brief review followed. |
Pulmonary vascular air embolism is a rare, and almost invariably fatal complication of positive pressure ventilation of newborn infants. There have only been 53 cases described in the world literature to date. We have experienced a case of pulmonary vascular air embolism in a premature newborn as a complication of mechanical ventilation during the course of respiratory distress syndrome. The pathophysiology and clinical characteristics of... |
Anomalies of the inferior vena cava (IVC) are often discovered incidentally during imaging studies performed for other reasons, since patients with these abnormalities are usually asymptomatic. Infrahepatic interruption of the IVC with azygos or hemiazygos continuation is an unusual anomaly of the IVC. We report a case of single left-sided IVC with hemiazygos continuation in associated with patent ductus arteriosus and left superior vena cava.... |
Agenesis of the corpus callosum is a form of dorsal midline dysgenesis Malformation of the corpus callosum may vary from partial absence of the corpus callosum and surrounding structure. We experienced a case of corpus callosum agenesis in a one day old neonate who showed facial anom- alies. Brain CT demonstrated a typical picture of corpus callosum agenesis and then we confirmed by autopsy. A brief... |
Posterior urethral valve is the most common obstructive abnormality in male children affecting both kidneys and likely arise from maldevelopment of the mesonephric duct. We have experienced a case of posterior urethral valve with urinary ascites in 10/365 year old male neonate. Abdominal distension, oligouria, and azotemia were improved by urinary catheterization. Pelvo-ureterostomy operation was done, and this case had excellent results with much... |
A case of incontinentia pigmenti, Bloch-Sulzberger type, without any developmental defect has been presented with the review of related literatures. The patient was a 4 day-old female infant with irregular, grouped vesicobullous lesions on the whole body, especially on the trunk and extremities since birth. No familial traits was noted. Diagnosis was made by the charateristic clinical, labaratory and histopathologic findings. |
We report a case of lipodystrophia centrifugalis abdominalis infantilis in 24 month male. At age 18 months, his mother noticed a fairly well-defined depression of skin in the both inguinal and axillary area, which gradually spread centrifugally to the lower portion of abdomen and total inguinal and axillary region. The laboratory findings were unremarkable. Biopsy showed absense of subcutaneous fat in the affected area. |
